On June 28, 2022, Atlus stated that the mainline Persona franchise is finally coming to Nintendo Switch during the Nintendo Partner Direct demonstration.
Atlus concluded the demonstration by announcing that Persona 5 Royal will be released for the Nintendo Switch on October 21, 2022. Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable will also be released for the Nintendo Switch, however at a later time. The series’ spinoff titles, including Persona 5 Strikers, were previously released by Atlus on the Nintendo Switch, but now the major role-playing adventures are also coming.
Finally: Persona on Nintendo Switch
Persona 5 Royal contains all DLC for Xbox and Windows PC, and the Persona games are also coming to Xbox (with Xbox Game Pass). It is not yet clear if this will apply to the Nintendo Switch version as well.
All information released in June 2022, and third-party developers created Nintendo Partner Direct, so Nintendo Switch customers will soon be able to play a variety of new games.
Although Persona 5 characters have been present in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for a while, you haven’t been able to play Persona 5 on your Nintendo Switch. Two years after its initial release, Persona 5 Royal will finally be ported by Atlus to Nintendo’s hybrid platform this fall. This is only one of three Persona titles that will be available on Switch.

The news was revealed during Nintendo’s most recent Direct Mini showcase, which also had other surprises for lovers of turn-based JRPGs. Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable are two other Persona games that will be coming to the Switch in addition to Persona 5 Royal. Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable never made it to any of Nintendo’s platforms, handheld or otherwise, even though both were accessible on the PlayStation Vita (the latter via the backward-compatible PSP version).
The Direct also revealed the release date for Persona 5 Royal, which is October 21. Persona 5 will also go live on Xbox Game Pass on that day. Nintendo did not provide a release date for Persona 4 Golden or Persona 3 Portable for Switch, merely stating during the Direct Mini that they would be “coming soon.”
Persona 5 Royal, which was released globally in 2020, is the definitive edition of the game and features extra content not present in the original 2017 release of Persona 5. Michael Higham gave Persona 5 Royal a rare perfect score of 10 out of 10 and referred to it as “the definitive version of a modern masterpiece” in his review on GameSpot.
Beyond a bevy of excellent gameplay enhancements and additions, though, Higham noted that the game “brings a monumental new story arc seeded inside the original storyline and paid off in full at the end.” “It provides something genuinely unexpected, leading to moments of amazement and emotional conclusions that recontextualize what I thought the game was,” the player said.
Several of the most popular Persona series titles are now available on Nintendo Switch. Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal are coming to Switch, Atlus and Nintendo revealed at Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct. The releases will begin in October.
Persona 5 Royal, the first of Atlus’ three role-playing games, will launch on Nintendo’s system on October 21. The other two games are currently simply marked as “coming soon,” but they will eventually be released.
The Persona series has previously appeared on Switch in previous releases, including these new ones. Persona 5 Strikers and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax are both available for the Nintendo platform, but neither of them are the series’ flagship RPGs. The protagonist of Persona 5 named Joker made an additional appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as one of the DLC characters.
Just a few weeks ago, Atlus announced that the three Persona games would also be released on PC via Steam, PlayStation platforms, and Xbox devices. The Switch versions of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden won’t likely be released until some point in 2023 because Persona 5 Royal has the same release date for both systems as it does for the Switch.
