WEST CHESTER — For Dr. Janet Jacapraro, practicing medicine is all about helping people in need of quality medical care.
“The most rewarding experiences in my career have been while working with underserved populations,” said Jacapraro, who was recently hired as the medical director of Community Volunteers in Medicine, 300 Lawrence Drive, West Chester.
“I was drawn to medicine because I’ve always been interested in people’s stories. Knowing a patient’s story helps inform their care.”
Community Volunteers in Medicine is a community-based health organization, providing free healthcare to uninsured, working people in the Chester County region. The services also includes dental services and prescription drugs.
Jacapraro, a board-certified internist, was working as primary care physician at Penn Medicine in Exton. She had been volunteering Monday nights at the Community Volunteers in Medicine for several years.
When an opening came up at the nonprofit, Jacapraro was happy to step in.
“Dr. Jacapraro is uniquely qualified for this role,” said Maureen Tomoschuk, president and CEO of the nonprofit. “Her knowledge, compassion and understanding of the rich diversity of Chester County will be huge assets to best serve the needs of our community.”
Jacapraro comes to the position for years of experience as a medical director for community-based health organizations in Baltimore, Md.
Jacapraro earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed her residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Community Volunteers in Medicine was founded in 1998 to provide healthcare, hope and healing to local uninsured working adults and their children.
