Nations Top Hospitals Ranked By Fortune IBM Watson Health ACROSS AMERICA — The 2021 list of the nation’s best teaching and community hospitals has been released by Fortune/IBM Watson Health.
Fortune/IBM Watson Health ranked the top 40 teaching hospitals and top 60 community hospitals based on Medicare cost reports, other data from Medicare providers, and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, according to the rankings’ methodology.
The rankings, released Tuesday, show the hospitals’ scores, out of five stars, for clinical outcomes, operation efficiency, patient experience and financial health.
A “community health survey performance” was an added category this year, with the heightened role hospitals have played in communities nationwide since the start of the coronavirus pandemic last March.
“Health is not just limited to what happens within the health care system,” Irene Dankwa-Mullen, deputy chief health officer at IBM Watson Health, said in a statement. “During the pandemic, we really got to understand how social factors and economic determinants contribute to health, and we have so much to learn from what hospitals are already doing in this regard. If anything, the past year has been a call for action to learn even more.”
