SARASOTA, FL — Cyber Ninjas, a Sarasota-based firm, is shutting down after being ordered to pay $50,000 a day in sanctions until it turns over records related to Arizona’s 2020 election audit, which it was hired to oversee last year.
“$2 million debt from the Arizona audit and endless legal and character attacks on the company by those who opposed the audit make it untenable moving forward,” Rod Thomson, a spokesperson for Cyber Ninjas, told CNN.
An Arizona judge found Cyber Ninjas in contempt of court Thursday and ordered the company to pay $50,000 a day until it turned over records from the audit to The Arizona Republic. The newspaper sued the company for the records in June, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported.
The audit stemmed from efforts by Arizona’s Republican lawmakers to throw out the 2020 election results, which gave President Joe Biden a victory over his opponent, former President Donald Trump. Biden defeated Trump by 10,457 votes, according to state election results.
After reviewing the 2.1 million votes cast in Maricopa County, which includes the Phoenix area, in the 2020 election, Cyber Ninjas released a report in September showing that their recount was identical to the county’s original tally.

In fact, the firm found that President Joe Biden gained 99 votes in the Maricopa County, while former President Donald Trump lost 261 votes, CNN said.
The cyber security consulting company, founded by Doug Logan, an advocate of the “Stop the Steal” campaign, a Republican movement to overturn election results by claiming that Biden and the Democrats won through election fraud, still used its report to try to cast doubt on the county’s election results.
Cyber Ninjas said it couldn’t fully vet tens of thousands of ballots in the county and claimed there were inconsistencies when it compared county voter registration records to records from a commercial data company, CNN said. The firm suggested that the Arizona attorney general follow up on the review.
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors released a response to the company’s report, dismissing its areas of concern. The board tweeted Thursday that its “members believe American voters should see the public records that a judge has repeatedly ordered Cyber Ninjas to turn over. Voters need to know how Cyber Ninjas came to their faulty conclusions about a free, fair and accurate election.”
The board said that 76 claims made by Cyber Ninjas in its report were misleading, false or inaccurate.
