Good Boy Bobby had to show plenty of guts to win the Rowland Meyrick Chase at Wetherby for Nigel and Sam Twiston-Davies.
In a race where class came to the fore with the first four places filled by four of the first five on the racecard, it was Good Boy Bobby who proved to be the toughest of them all.
Always in the front rank, the eight-year-old was racing off a 5lb higher mark than when a narrow second to Aye Right in the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle and is clearly still on the upgrade.
With usual partner Daryl Jacob absent through injury, the trainer’s son came in for the ride and always had his mount in the right place.
However, he may have been slightly fortunate as Sandy Thomson’s Empire Steel still looked to be travelling better than anything else when coming down four from home.

That left Good Boy Bobby, Top Ville Ben and Lord Du Mesnil battling it out in front with Lake View Lad on their tails in fourth.
On the run to the last the front three were finding it hard going, but Good Boy Bobby found it in his reserves to put in a big leap at the last.
It was a slow-motion finish but the winner prevailed by a length three-quarters at 4-1 to emerge as a genuine Grand National contender for a yard who certainly know what it takes to win that race.
We’ve already seen couple of key pass-catchers ruled out for Week 16 after being placed on the reserve/COVID list (Gabriel Davis, Cole Beasley), and injuries have claimed a couple, too (Mike Evans, Jamison Crowder). Heading into Sunday, the status of at least one key guy on the reserve/COVID list is still up in the air — namely, Travis Kelce — but after teammate Tyreek Hill was cleared on Saturday, there’s still hope for Kelce. Meanwhile guys like Adam Thielen and D.J. Moore are “questionable” because of various ailments. Regardless of the reason, fantasy football owners need to know the latest updates on these pass-catchers before locking in their final start ’em, sit ’em decisions, which is why we’ll be providing the latest news below throughout the day on Sunday.

Is Travis Kelce playing Week 16?
UPDATE: Kelce is officially OUT for Week 16.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday afternoon that Kelce still “has a shot” to return from the reserve/COVID list in time for Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh. Kelce will reportedly take “multiple” COVID tests by Sunday afternoon, and the Chiefs “expect to get an answer Sunday morning” as to whether Kelce can clear protocol and return. Fortunately, that means we should have an answer before the early games kick off even though Kansas City plays in the late-afternoon window.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy both said earlier this week that Kelce would play if he’s activated, with Bienienemy stating that Kelce has been “a part of every meeting.” Obviously, Kelce could be a bit behind, especially if he was truly sick, but as long as he’s active and playing, he remains a must-start. If we haven’t heard by the 1 p.m. ET kickoffs whether Kelce is active, assume he won’t be and pivot to someone like C.J. Uzomah or Cole Kmet. Chiefs backups Blake Bell and Noah Gray have some sneaky upside, but neither can be trusted in the fantasy semifinals.

is Tyreek Hill playing Week 16?
Hill was cleared to return from the reserve/COVID list on Saturday afternoon, and like Kelce, he had been involved in virtual meetings with the team all week. It would seem likely he’ll play with no limitations and is thus safe to put in fantasy lineups.
Hill might be a bit out of sync with Patrick Mahomes and the offense, especially if he dealt with any notable symptoms, but given the importance of this game for both the Chiefs and fantasy football owners, you can’t hold back on an explosive playmaker like Hill. The Steelers pass defense has proven vulnerable virtually all season, so even though Hill has been a bit more inconsistent than usual this year, he’s still a must-start in all formats.
