TOMS RIVER, NJ — Two people were injured Friday in a crash that happened when a school bus driver transporting students apparently suffered a medical episode, Toms River police said.
The crash happened about 4 p.m. on Bamberry Drive, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.
The initial investigation found “the bus driver may have suffered a medical episode,” Messina said. That led to the bus hitting an occupied parked car and a utility pole, she said.
An occupant of the parked car was injured, and that person and the bus driver were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment. There was no information on the severity of the injuries.
None of the students on the bus were injured, Messina said. Some of the students were picked up at the scene of the crash by guardians, and a second bus was sent to transport students who were not picked up by guardians, she said.
