1. The director
Initially this film will be directed by Scott Derrickson who directed the first film. However, due to creative differences, Derrickson stepped down as director in January 2020. To take his place, Sam Raimi, who is famous for his film EVIL DEAD and the SPIDER-MAN trilogy, entered in April 2020.
Reporting from CBR, Raimi explained his reason for returning to superhero films after his last film SPIDER-MAN 3 which received negative responses, “The internet is increasing and people don’t like the film and they must have told me about it. So, it’s hard to take it back. .”
Then he added “But then, I found out that there was a vacancy at DOCTOR STRANGE 2. My agent called me and said, ‘They’re looking for a director at Marvel for this film and your name came up. Are you interested?’ And I thought, ‘I wonder if I can still do it.’ The pressure is huge, that kind of film. And I was like, ‘Well, that’s reason enough.'”
When it comes to characters, of course Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as the famous wizard Dr. Stephen Strange. In addition, Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Karl Mordo again, Strange’s mentor becomes an enemy at the end of the first film. Benedict Wong, who appeared in SHANG-CHI, will also return as Wong.

In a virtual Q&A hosted by the New York Film Academy, Olsen said the film is heading in a darker direction. “It’s a really scary movie. It’s like the old Sam Raimi. He’s trying to make Marvel’s scariest movie.”
Olsen previously told Glamor UK that Raimi really wanted a crazy, horror show vibe. Writer Waldron, who previously wrote the LOKI series, also wants to build on what Derrickson did in the first film and push this sequel in a more sinister direction.
