The Turtles are back on the concert, and they’re also serving as musical broadcasters for the evening. Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, The Association, The Buckinghams, The Vogues, and The Cowsills will perform alongside The Turtles.
The Turtles are most recognized for their California pop sound, which is dominated by harmony. The band conquered the airways in the late 1960s with classics including “Elenore,” “She’d Rather Be With Me,” “It Ain’t Me Babe,” “You Showed Me,” and the tour’s title, “Happy Together.” Ron Dante joins the concert to perform “Sugar Sugar” and “Tracy,” two of his own mega-hits.
The “Happy Together” Tour will bring Gary Puckett & The Union Gap back to the stage. Gary’s unmistakable voice will be heard once more shouting out his hits. “Young Girl,” “Over You,” “Woman, Woman,” “This Girl Is A Woman Now,” “Lady Willpower,” “Don’t Give In To Him,” and other songs will be remembered fondly by fans. The Association, who had huge radio achievement in the 1960s with such #1 singles as “Cherish,” “Windy,” “Never My Love,” and “Along Comes Mary,” are also returning to the tour in 2022. In the 1960s, this legendary singing quartet was a regular on the radio airwaves.
The Buckinghams were established in 1966 and were one of the most popular groups of the late 1960s, with singles such as “Kind of a Drag,” “Don’t You Care,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” and “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song.” In 1967, Billboard Magazine crowned them “The Most Listened to Band in America” because they had three chart songs on two different labels at the same time.
The Vogues are also noted for their booming pop sound, which is based on harmony. “Five O’Clock World,” “You’re The One,” “My Special Angel,” and “Turn Around Look At Me,” among others, were all Top 10 songs for the Vogues. Buy Tickets From Here
The Cowsills, a harmonic family group (two brothers and a sister) who influenced the big ’60s hit television sitcom The Patridge Family, round out the lineup. “Hair,” “Indian Lake,” “The Rain The Park & Other Things (I Love The Flower Girl)” and other well-known tunes are guaranteed to thrill. The tour has consistently performed more than 50 concerts every year, and 2022 will be no special case.
Special concert tickets, which cost $21 and contain gate entrance, will go on sale at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 8, at statefair.org.
The 2022 Nebraska State Fair will be held in Fonner Park in Grand Island from August 26 to September 5, with the theme “Nothing More Nebraskan.”
