The Kennedy Space Center in Florida has a long and illustrious history.
The Kennedy Space Center first opened its doors in 1963. James Webb, a NASA administrator, initiated the first-ever self-guided tours of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station for the general public. The audience was able to get a sense of the futuristic world of space technology through this trip. In 1965, as the site’s popularity grew, they erected a full-scale visitor facility named Spaceport USA, which cost $2 million. Even back in the day, this was one of Florida’s most popular and visited tourist attractions.
Many famous space missions were conducted from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center. This includes the well-known Apollo 13 mission, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2020. After an oxygen tank malfunction, the 1970 launch from the Kennedy Space Center was canceled. Fortunately, the men of the Apollo space program returned to Earth safely and without mishap.
